Sergio Espinoza plays the music of his homeland Perú with spirit, joy and remarkable technical skill. A classically trained violinist, Sergio studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Lina, Perú. An accomplished flautist, Sergio plays many styles of Peruvian flutes, including sikus, and quenas. He also plays the mandolin and charango.
Seergio’s passion for the traditional music of the Andean people was handed down by his parents, who along with other family members, performed n the Peruvian Music and Dance troupe Pacha. Sergio performed with Pachafor 14 years as they toured Perú, Colombia, Spain, France and Germany.
Sergio taught music education in Lima for seven years. He worked with children from the elementary grades through high school, and also trained teacherd in the filed of music Education. After coming to the United States in 1991, Sergio toured in the U.S. and Europe for over 10 years with various groups, performing concerts in a wide variety of settings and presenting workshops and lectures. In 2003, Sergio formed InkasWasi Perú, bringing together musicians from several countries of South America to perform the music of the indigenous people of the Andes Maountains. Sergio says – The is a quote I once read: “Nothing comes true until it’s fist a dream… and forming this groups has been my dream”.
